What is a Physical Therapist?
Physical Therapists are specialists in the assessment and rehabilitation
of orhtopedic conditions resulted from injury, disease or surgery. Physical Therapists
are educated specialized programs and are licensed as health professionals by New York State.
In the orthopedic private practice setting therapists may have additional
certifications in manual therapy, sports training and orthopedic specialities.
What to expect from therapy?
Your physical therapist will perform a thorough orthopedic examination.
This may include be not limited to: taking a history, observation of posture and
movement, palpation, preforming joint motion, flexibility, strength and special diagnostic tests.
Depending on your injury your physical therapy program will consist of different
types of treatments. These may include, but are not limited to:
- Manual therapy: hands on treatments using techniques of soft tissue and joint mobilization and stretching
- Safe individualized exercise program specific to weakness
- Therapeutic modalities such as ultrasound and electrical stimulatieon.
- Hot and cold packs
