Do you have a ski trip planned? Watch this free video to help prevent injury and improve your performance. With the mounds of snow we have in the northeast our clients are hitting the slopes in droves! Our mission is to help you prevent an injury, whether you’re a blue cruiser or tackling a black diamond.
Each year around this time we see an increase in ski injuries, mostly in the knee. Meniscus (cartilage) and ACL (ligament) tears are common however a program designed by a Doctor of Physical Therapy can decrease the occurrence. Ski and snowboard equipment places your foot and ankle in semi-locked position. With your ankle less mobile the ground reaction forces can travel right through your knee. If you are lacking strength, balance or have an old injury, your knee could take the brunt of the force as you head toward that white fluffy powder or Volkswagen sized mogul!
Watch this video to learn 3 exercises you can do to prepare for your ski trip free of injury.
Perform these exercises three times a week, four-six weeks prior to your ski trip. You will see your performance improve and will be working to prevent injury. You can also work them into your weekly routine to improve your overall fitness.
If you know a friend or loved one injured on a ski trip please forward this to them.
